Dill is a delicious ingredient used in more of our favorite dishes and condiments than most people realize. Plus, it’s excellent with seafood. Whether you love dill or are as hesitant about its “beyond pickles” uses as my friend, this list is one you should see.
1. Tartar Sauce
There are plenty of condiments that taste just as good as their homemade counterparts when bought from the store. Tartar sauce isn’t one of them. Nothing beats homemade tartar sauce, and if you can combine ingredients in a bowl and stir, you can make it. Dill and dill pickles are integral to the recipe.
2. Lemon Dill Salmon
I’m a dill pickle fanatic, but dill really shines when added to seafood dishes. The creamy dill sauce you’ll make for this baked salmon is smoother and a bit sweeter than traditional tartar sauce. It also has the perfect amount of garlic to set off the fish’s flavor.
3. Dill Pickle Dip
If you enjoy tangy dips that border on sour, you’ll love this dill pickle dip. You need only four ingredients to make it – cream cheese, dill, dill pickles, and pickle juice – and no cooking is required. You can serve it with chips or raw veggies. However, it’s best as a dipping sauce for fried pickles.
4. Salmon and Egg Breakfast Scramble with Dill
You can even work dill into your savory breakfasts. This combination of scrambled eggs, shredded salmon, dill, and Greek yogurt is a delicious, protein-packed way to start the day.
5. Cucumber Dill Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette
When eaten raw, dill’s flavor is complex and somewhat hard to describe. It’s initially sweet but eventually fades into the typical sourness we associate with dill pickles. Because of its complex mixture of flavors, it’s a great addition to salads. This quick, easy-to-make salad combines two types of lettuce, fresh dill, cucumbers, white onions, and feta cheese. The homemade two-minute lemon vinaigrette dressing adds even more sweet tanginess to it, creating a full-flavored, vibrant taste explosion you’ll love.
6. Dill Salmon Sandwich
This tasty sandwich is almost like a tuna salad sandwich; only you’ll make it with salmon (and plenty of dill) instead. Best of all, the most cooking it requires is toasting bread and stirring ingredients.
7. Dill Potato Salad
If you want a potato salad recipe that’s fresh, filling, and a little tangy, use the ingredients in this recipe. Be sure not to leave out the green onion and celery, either. They add crunch and a bold, earthy flavor.
8. Dill Yogurt Sauce
Did you know you can make the perfect sauce for seafood in only 5 minutes? (It’s also perfect for falafel.) Add salt, cayenne pepper, and two tablespoons of lemon juice and dill to a base of dairy-free yogurt and garlic cloves. Then, drizzle some olive oil on top, and it’s done.
9. Lemon Dill Rice
This fluffy, zesty rice makes an excellent bed for your favorite fish. It’s also the perfect addition to jambalaya or a tasty side dish for gumbo.
10. Lemon Dill Sauce
Lemon dill sauce is thick, creamy, and full of flavor. As with most dill condiments, it tastes great with seafood. However, it’s also pretty yummy over roasted veggies or when used as a vegetable tray dipping sauce.
11. Peas with Scallions and Dill
English peas always make a tasty, healthy side dish, but they taste even better when you add dill and scallions to them. It’s almost like English pea salad, minus the eggs.
12. Dilly Beans
Cucumbers aren’t the only things you can pickle with dill. Whole green beans also taste excellent when pickled. The garlic and chilis give them some spice, and the dill provides them with a sour bite. It’s a wonderful combination.
13. Zucchini Walnut Dill Soup
This incredible soup has a delightfully silky consistency and is good hot or cold, making it a versatile meal you can enjoy year-round. As the recipe states, it’s “creamless but creamy,” and it contains a half-cup of toasted walnuts for added flavor and thickness.
14. Roasted Asparagus with Lemon and Dill
Roasted asparagus is one of my sides to eat with steak, but I’d never considered adding dill. This recipe adds not only dill but also honey, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper. It gives the asparagus a lighter, fresher, zestier flavor that’s surprisingly delicious.
15. Lemon Dill Butter
This lemon dill butter is phenomenal, and I usually keep some on hand for seafood, vegetables, and even pasta. It takes 10 minutes to make and lasts for up to a month in the freezer. It’s become an everyday staple in our house.
16. Dill Pickle and Onion Potato Chips
Fans of dill pickle or salt and vinegar potato chips will love these homemade ones. Each chip packs an absolute wallop of flavor, and that’s before you dip it in the homemade dip. They’re incredibly crispy, and they don’t have nearly as much grease as store-bought chips. These are a way to enjoy your favorite snacks pretty much guilt-free.
17. Lemon Chicken in Dill Cream Sauce
Tender, juicy, and creamy, this lemon chicken will quickly become a dinnertime favorite in your home. It’s sweet and zesty, and it only takes 35 minutes to cook. Serve it on a bed of rice with a side salad and a glass of Chardonnay for a restaurant-quality homemade meal.
18. Chicken Tzatziki Cucumber Boats
These make great, healthy midday snacks. Furthermore, if you’re looking for something fun and unique to bring to your next finger-food potluck, these would be ideal. They have a unique flavor that’s fresh and slightly tangy, and they only take 15 minutes to make.
19. White Bean Asparagus Dill Soup
This thick, tasty soup takes 30 minutes to make, is vegan-friendly, and features a great combination of ingredients. The fresh dill adds its warm, complex flavor that’ll delight both the sweet and sour taste buds on your tongue.
20. Oven-Roasted Dill Potatoes
I like oven-roasted potatoes just about any way you can make them, but this recipe is one of my favorites. Each potato is perfectly crispy, dripping with butter, and has a spectacular tangy, garlic-y flavor.
21. Greek Salad
The next time you have an overflowing of summer veggies, use them to make this sensational Greek salad. Follow the recipe as-is, or add your favorite veggies to suit your tastes better. Just be sure you take the time to make the homemade dressing, which includes dill, oregano, feta brine, red wine and balsamic vinegars, olive oil, garlic, lemon, and sea salt.
22. Smoked Salmon Dip
Dill doesn’t just taste great on salmon; it’s also delicious mixed with salmon. You can make this dip in no time. Simply add all the ingredients to a food processor and blend until it’s smooth. It works well as a bagel topping, sandwich filling, or dip.
23. Green Beans with Lemon Dill Vinaigrette
This dish is such a simple side dish that practically anyone could make. Basically, you’ll mix your ingredients in a lidded container, then shake it until everything is well-mixed. Finally, cook your green beans, add them to the dressing, and toss them until they’re well-coated. The result is a green bean side dish like you’ve never had before – tangy, zesty, and supremely herby. Click on a star to rate it!
