Holiday recipes are always a lot of fun. However, of all the possible holidays for which people make treats, none of them are as exciting or entertaining as Halloween. With these Halloween recipes, you not only have permission to make things spooky, kooky, and even a little gross (Halloween feet loaf, anyone?!), but it’s practically expected of you! So if you’re in the mood to get a bit creative, you’ll surely find something on this list of 30 cute and creepy Halloween recipes.
1. Halloween Mummy Cheese Ball
When you think of a cheese ball, you probably picture a round ball covered in nuts or ham and green onions, and rightly so! That’s usually how cheese balls look. But no one said they have to be actual balls. Instead, think outside the box this Halloween and shape your cheese ball into a cheese mummy instead. Once you’ve shaped it, cover it in cream cheese bandages and use peppercorns and peppers to make a face. It’s the yummiest mummy you’ll ever taste.
2. Boo Bark
If you’ve ever made peppermint bark for Christmas, you should already have an idea what boo bark is. It’s just peppermint bark that’s more suited for Halloween. Thanks to the semi-sweet and white chocolate bars, it’s black and white and covered in Halloween-themed candy, such as sprinkles, orange M&Ms, and candy eyeballs. It’s adorable, crunchy, and devilishly delicious.
3. Halloween Feet Loaf
The munchkins in your family will love Halloween feet loaf, even if the sight of it makes your stomach want to revolt. It features the rich, herby flavor of meatloaf, but it looks like two dismembered feet, complete with onions for toenails and the “bloody bone” showing through at the top. These feet are super gross, making them perfect for Halloween, especially if you’re trying to impress anyone under the age of 12.
4. Halloween Snack Board
The Halloween snack board combines traditional Halloween and party treats – candy corn, orange slices, nuts, crackers, etc. – with a few more “disturbing” appetizers. For instance, there’s spooky guacamole (covered in candy eyeballs), Oreo spiders with their long, spindly legs, and BOO-tiful chocolate-covered pretzel ghosts, to name a few. The great thing about this board is that you can have fun with it! Add anything you like – the more creepy and crawly, the better.
5. Caramel Apple Dip
Individual caramel-covered apples are a Halloween delicacy, but making one big thing of caramel apple dip that everyone can share is much easier. It’s so easy, in fact, that you’ll only need four ingredients – cream cheese, sugar, toffee bits, and caramel sauce – and about 6 minutes to make it!
6. Chicken Pumpkins
Just about everyone loves fried chicken, but it’s not incredibly Halloween-themed. Of course, if you cut and shape it to look like miniature pumpkins, that’s a different story. These are festive, crispy, juicy, and cheesy, thanks to the addition of a mozzarella stick in the middle of each. No matter how old you are, it’s hard not to love them.
7. Spooky Ghost Cake
This spooky (read: adorable!) ghost cake isn’t hard to make at all, but it is a bit time-consuming. While you won’t need a lot of ingredients, having some special tools is helpful. Your ingredients list is simple: cake mix, buttercream frosting, and black food coloring. The “special tools” list is a bit lengthier. Even so, this cake is easy enough for beginners to make. Just take your time, do your best, and remember that you get to eat anything that doesn’t turn out the way you want before trying again.
8. Mummy Brie
Slightly sweetened baked brie always makes a fantastic appetizer. It’s even better if you add puff pastry dough to it before baking it. And if you shape the puff pastry dough just right and add some apples and pecans for eyes, you’ll have a perfectly enchanting mummy! And don’t worry; it still has the same nutty, buttery brie flavor you love.
9. Red Velvet Marshmallow Spider Web Cake
This red velvet marshmallow spiderweb cake is absolutely stunning and can easily double as a Spiderman-themed birthday cake on short notice! It features the rich, slightly tangy flavor of red velvet cake, along with its wonderfully creamy texture. Plus, it looks incredible, and the entire thing (including the spider on top) is 100% edible. The buttercream icing and marshmallow spider webs make this cake insanely sweet, though, so cut small pieces.
10. 3-Ingredient Ghost Cookies
A sweet, chocolate-filled Milano cookie surrounded by white almond bark – what could be better than that? Not a lot! Add some mini-chocolate chips for eyes and a mouth, and turn these tasty treats into tiny ghosts that are ideal for any Halloween celebration.
11. Bat Oreo Truffles
These bat Oreo truffles look fantastic, and believe it or not, they’re actually easy to make. You can fix a dozen of them in less than an hour (excluding chill time) with only five ingredients, wax paper, and a Ziploc bag. If you’re looking for something appropriate for a Halloween party, these little bats are just the thing.
12. Mummy Dogs
Mummy-themed dishes are extremely popular for Halloween, primarily because they’re so effortless to make. These mummy dogs, for example, will give you the rich, crescent roll and hot dog flavor of pigs-in-a-blanket, but they look like mummies, thanks to a little creativity with the crescent roll dough.
13. Halloween Ghost Pizza
Cheesy, herby, and full of tomato sauce and garlic, Halloween ghost pizza is — you guessed it — pizza! And who doesn’t love pizza? You’ll use the mozzarella on this pizza to make flying, screaming (or smiling) ghosts. To be honest, this one looks a little silly to me, but the kiddos seem to love it, and that’s all that matters.
14. Witches Brew Halloween Cocktail
If you’re looking for more adult-oriented Halloween recipes, you’ll have to try this 5-minute recipe for the witches brew cocktail. It uses only three ingredients – Midori melon liqueur, orange juice, and Sprite. It’s tart and tangy, and its eerie yellow color looks just like something Winifred Sanderson would brew in her cauldron.
15. 7-Layer Spider Web Dip
This recipe is for your classic seven-layer dip but with a bit of a Halloween twist. You’ll enjoy the same essential ingredients – refried beans, cheese, salsa, onions, olives, etc. But you’ll layer and decorate it to look like a creepy spider web with creepy black spiders crawling over it. It’s super tasty if you can get over the fact that you’re dipping into a spider web!
16. Witch Hat Garlic Bread
Sometimes, the perfect Halloween recipe isn’t about what you’re serving but how you serve it — much like the seven-layer dip above. The same is true for these super cute witches’ hats. They’re just garlic bread – delicious, buttery garlic bread – with a strip of cheese and an olive slice on them. But their shape helps them look precisely like miniature witches’ hats, making them perfect for Halloween.
17. Mini-Spider Pizzas
These mini-pizzas are cheesy and scrumptious. They taste a lot like Bagel Bites, actually. To make them fit for Halloween, though, you’ll need to slice up an olive and assemble it so that it looks like a big, fat spider. And don’t worry, if your guests don’t like olives, they can pick them off. You won’t cook the pizzas with the olives on, so the flavor won’t spread to the rest of the pizza.
18. Graveyard Layer Mexican Dip
What separates regular Mexican layered dip from graveyard layered dip? Several square tortillas standing out of the dip like headstones, of course! If you love dips with lots of flavors, this one has you covered with refried beans, beef chorizo, guacamole, cilantro-lime sour cream, tomatoes, black olives, cheese, and cilantro. Plus, it adds a “dark and dreary” vibe to any Halloween table.
19. Halloween Veggie Tray
Looking for a healthy snack tray with a Halloween theme? Assemble this raw veggie tray that looks like a skeleton! With peppers for ribs, celery and grape tomatoes for arm bones and joints, cucumbers for a spine, and mushrooms for the hip bones, this little guy is pretty impressive! Add the brie graveyard and the Frankenstein guacamole also listed in the recipe if you want to go all out.
20. Frankenstein Halloween Sandwich Wraps
All you’ll need to make these quick and easy Frankenstein wraps are green spinach wraps, a few cheese sticks, and your favorite lunch meats, cheeses, and veggies. They’re super cute, take almost no time to make, and are an excellent kitchen craft idea to try with your kids (or students).
21. Cheese Olive Balls
If you’ve never combined them before, you might be surprised at how well olives and cheese go together—the salty, slightly bitter taste of the olives pairs flawlessly with the rich creaminess of the cheese. Add some butter and a bit of crunch to make cheese balls, and you’ve got a real winning treat. These look a bit too much like an ogre’s eye to serve at anything fancy, but they taste so good, you’ll find yourself sneaking around and making them long after Halloween’s over.
22. Cheesy Witches Pretzel Broomsticks
These are one of my all-time favorite Halloween appetizers because they require only three ingredients, take practically no effort to make, and both look and taste phenomenal. Cheese and pretzels are an excellent combination. When you split the cheese stick to make it look like a straw broom and tie it with a strand of fresh chive, it’s the cutest thing you’ll ever see.
23. Milk Chocolate-Stuffed Jack-o-Lantern Cookies
It doesn’t get much more Halloween than Jack-o-Lanterns, and these spicy, sugary, milk chocolate-stuffed Jack-o-Lantern cookies are a fantastic way to add more pumpkins to your table. They smell amazing, taste even better, and are an exquisite fall treat for practically any autumnal occasion.
24. Cheesy Spiders
If you can squeeze canned cheese onto crackers and stick pretzel sticks out from the sides, you can make these cheesy spiders. They have that well-balanced cheesy, salty flavor that makes most cheesy pretzel snacks taste so good. Once you add two raisins for eyes, everyone will get a kick out of how cute these are.
25. Halloween Monster Fingers
These sweet, buttery “monster fingers” may look creepy and distasteful, but one bite of their soft, lightly vanilla-flavored yumminess, and you’ll soon change your mind. Smear a bit of cherry (or strawberry) jam on the end of each one to help hold the sharp almond “fingernail.” You might also want to set aside a small cup of jam for dipping because that tiny bit at the end of the stick won’t be nearly enough for most people.
26. Ghost- and Cat-Shaped Sandwiches
This recipe calls for chicken or tuna salad sandwiches, but as long as you use cat- and ghost-shaped cookie cutters, you can turn any sandwich into Halloween sandwiches. Personally, I also go with white bread for the ghosts and dark rye or pumpernickel for the cats. I also use orange bread and pumpkin cookie cutters for a dessert option.
27. Cauldron Queso Dip
This thick, creamy cheese dip combines four cheeses, butter, onions, jalapenos, peppers, tomatoes, evaporated milk, and a ton of herbs and spices. It’s spicy but not too hot and surprisingly filling for a dip! Make it “cauldron” queso dip by serving it in a mini-witches’ cauldron for Halloween. For added effect, use black and red tortilla chips for dipping.
28. Creamy Pumpkin Soup
If you’re looking for a scrumptious meal to serve for dinner on a cool fall evening, this creamy pumpkin soup could be just the thing. It’s thick, herb-flavored, and features the rich flavors of pumpkin puree and chicken stock. It may not be ideal for a Halloween party, but as a warm-up-your-belly meal in the autumn months, you can’t find anything much better.
29. Halloween Snack Mix
If you enjoy making your own snack or trail mix, this recipe is the one for you. It takes only 10 minutes to pull together, and it looks (and tastes!) like the ideal Halloween treat. You can adjust the ingredients as you like, but as written, the recipe calls for tiny twist pretzels, Bugles (the original witches’ fingers), caramel corn, M&Ms, autumn mix candy corn, and peanuts. It’s sweet, salty, crunchy, and soft. It combines everything you love about Halloween in one delectable bowl.
30. Easy Halloween Cupcakes
I’m a fan of anything with the word “easy” in its name, and these easy Halloween cupcakes are no exception. Whether you want to make ghost cupcakes or green or purple monster cupcakes, the recipe’s the same. They’re so simple to make that you can make two dozen in just over 30 minutes. It doesn’t get much better than that. Click on a star to rate it!
